Last year, we lost one of our pups to a coyote. It was a heartbreaking wake up call that we needed to get a fence installed to help make our yard safer for our yorkies. We had been putting it off because our yard isn’t level and getting a fence installed also meant we’d need a custom gate for our driveway.

So I made a call to Taylor Stafford with Bear Roots Fence Company LLC here in the Tri-Cities area. My fellow combat veteran and buddy, Brian, had told me about them a while back after he hired them for two homes.

Taylor came out quickly and helped me pick a great set up for a beautiful black chain link fence. I also asked for a special favor. I needed two large poles put up with solar spotlights to make it easier to keep an eye on the pups when they’re outside.

This wasn’t in Taylor’s normal wheelhouse of fence installation, but he was happy to take on the challenge! I purchased the spotlights and Taylor made it happen.

Turns out, that’s the level of customer care that Taylor and his company are committed to. They don’t just install fences. They solve customer problems, like mine. Fair pricing along with above and beyond customer service is a rare find these days. And I’m truly grateful.

We are thrilled with our new fence and I have referred them to several people since!

Back in 2000, I started my career at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department down in Florida. One of my very first partners was Allen Diamond. It’s pretty common in the military and law enforcement to use last names, so he was known as just “Diamond.”

We made a great team. Over the years, we took different paths, but always ended up somehow in the same units. We forged a friendship built in fire.

Now, 26 years later, we’re finally both retired. It took him a little longer to get there than it did me! And once a year, retirees travel back to Florida to complete the required qualifications to maintain a federal standard.

Which means from now on, once a year, I now get the pleasure of seeing my buddy, Diamond. This year was Diamond’s first and it was so good to see him again. It feels like we were just hanging out yesterday!

Now he is working on plans to come visit me in God's Country, North Eastern Tennessee!

Unfortunately, everyone encounters bad service at some point. But Brian and Brenda decided to do something about it. About 9 years ago, they didn’t have the best experience with a septic service. Brian had a plumbing background, and he decided he could do something to make sure folks in the area got the quality septic service they deserved.

So they started Hill's Septic Services here in Elizabethton.

It was pretty simple. Their plan was to prioritize honesty, great communication, timely service, and a job done RIGHT.

As a Realtor, I work with a lot of home services regularly. And shortly after working with Hills Septic Service, they became my “go-to” recommendation to any client or friend here in town.

A friend told Victor and Susan about me, and when I got the call I was happy to help them find a new place to call home! Little did I know, Victor and Susan live a bit “off-the-grid". They don’t have a computer or even cell phones! If I called and missed them? It was a throw back to the 90s with a message on an answering machine.

All of which is completely fine. And if I’m honest? A little impressive in today’s crazy, modern, and constantly connected world!

But when we started house hunting this winter, the weather made things even more complicated. They live on Buck Mountain (cue the dueling banjos 😂), so that means when it snows a little down here, it snowed PLENTY up there! They were often trapped for days!

But we muddled through the bad weather complications and stayed focused on the goal. All the paperwork was signed in person instead of online. All communication was through their landline and an answering machine.

We put a lot of work into this.

And Victor and Susan were completely worth it. They are the nicest people who finally found a beautiful home on 9+ acres that’s perfect for them, their four hound dogs, and family of cats.

They most likely will never see this post on Facebook, but I wanted to wish them all the best anyways. Welcome home and congratulations!

I think everybody has a “favorite” in their closet. That one shirt, or jacket, or sweatshirt you just love? For me it’s my Marine Corps hoodie. And when I started having problems with the zipper coming apart, I knew I had to find someone who could fix it.

Thankfully, I found Amy Kinley at Sizemic Alterations here in Johnson City!

As she looked over my hoodie, she warned me that it might cost a little more, but she was confident she could do it. When I came back to pick it up and saw her work, I would have happily paid more than what she charged. It was perfect!

I got the chance to chat with Amy and learned that she’s been sewing since she was a teenager. No wonder she’s an expert! She altered her own prom dress and wedding dress. Life eventually took her into the medical field as a nurse, but even then, she continued doing alterations for folks in her spare time.

After retirement, she decided to open her own business here in town where she gets to enjoy honing her craft and pursuing her passion every day.
