One of you asked for a three way comparison of Kilauea Caldera before the 2018 collapse, after the 2018 collapse, and present day. Here's the best I could do, using a Google Map image from before the collapse (top) against a USGS digital elevation map from 13 July 2018 (mid) and then creating the current image (bottom) using a USGS reference map from March 2, 2026 (see comments) to fill in the lava.
Note the tiny lava lake (football stadium size) in the top photo, slightly below the green pin, that was present in Halemaumau Crater before the collapse, as well as the nearby road and parking lot. Also notice how much additional room there is in Kīlauea Caldera to contain lava (bottom photo), even if Halemaumau Crater were to overflow.
