Nearly every aspect of both The Vista and Duck Bottom have in some way, shape, or form been bolstered by the help of our VP of Operations, Mr. Bret Pettus. Since joining Southern Concepts over 8 years ago, Bret has channeled the principled, purposeful, and perfectionistic qualities of The Reformer Enneagram personality to strengthen many verticals of Southern Concepts. Whether maintaining our pristine wildlife habitats, managing the finances, or building new structures, Bret's "can do" attitude gets it done & gets it done right!
A true outdoorsman from Demopolis, AL, Bret finds peace in Spring while under the cypress trees at Duck Bottom. It's there where he can listen to the gobbling of the turkeys & reflect on His bountiful blessings. When not at work, Bret loves to spend time with his wife and children, build houses, work with animals, or do anything in nature.

Anyone who has walked through the doors of both Duck Bottom and The Vista has had the pleasure of being graced by Mollie's servant-hearted hospitality. Mollie emulates the Southern Concepts brand with her eye for detail and expectation of perfection, both of which can be attributed to her Enneagram personality as The Challenger. As the Director of Business Development, building lasting connections and strong relationships centered around memorable experiences lie at the core of her passions.
This affinity for community is something that she sees reflected in the cohesive bond of our well-trained dogs out on a quail hunt through the woods. Whether it's waking up for sunset with a coffee or cruising the creeks of Kiawah on a chartered sunset cruise, Mollie finds inspiration to serve in nature. She is passionate about creating a wholesome life with her husband and two daughters at their home in the country, while also enjoying the occasional couples getaway to sample all the best of the Lowcountry's eateries!

Introducing Hannah! As the Hospitality Manager at Duck Bottom, Hannah finds joy in preparing breakfast and lunch for our guests, as well as curating the tablescapes, seasonal decor, and Pro Shop amenities. True to her Reformer personality, Hannah is goal-oriented, purposeful, and driven to continually enhance our guest experience. Raised on her family's farm, she loves to garden, experiment with new recipes, and process the bountiful harvest. Be sure to try some of her delicious jams and preserves next time you're at the lodge!
In her spare time, she is passionately involved with her church. For a serotonin boost while on the property, Hannah retreats to Duck Bottom's newly completed to***co barn to delight in some R&R.

What would Duck Bottom be without Mrs. Sandi? The most tenured employee of Southern Concepts, Sandi has seen the comfort and care of Duck Bottom's members since 2010. She inspires the lives of all those around her with her self-confidence, resourcefulness, and straight-talking decisiveness — an uncanny representation of her Enneagram personality #8, The Challenger.
We are blessed to have Mrs. Sandi on the team! After a long day’s work, you’ll find her lounging on the front porch of the lodge, taking in all the sounds and sights of nature’s beauty.

Meet Chef Kris! Responsible for every meal served at Duck Bottom, Chef has been working magic in our kitchens since October 2021. His Enneagram personality, The Enthusiast, fosters a highly versatile & creative spirit which shines through every bite of his food. A true culinary professional, Kris' favorite activity at Duck Bottom is indulging in the decadent tasting menu & taking in the scenery from the pavilion. When not in the kitchen, Chef Kris enjoys spending time with his wife and children, bodybuilding, real estate investing, & Amazon arbitrage.

Meet Adam! As the Property Manager of Duck Bottom for the last year, he has been instrumental in cultivating and maintaining a top quality wildlife habitat across its 1,500 acres. Highlighting his “Enthusiast” personality, Adam is an avid outdoorsman who seeks to provide exciting experiences on property and beyond for our members and guests.

We’re delighted to introduce Emmy Welsh, our General Manager of The Vista. Over many years in the hospitality, food, and beverage industries, Emmy has fine tuned her hosting abilities and is our go-to gal for all matters of reservations, excursions, events, itineraries, and concierge on Kiawah Island.

As the only Helper (Enneagram #2) on our team, she is generous & friendly, always willing to assist however one may need it. A lover of the outdoors and warm weather, Emmy enjoys her time walking the vast beaches or venturing off on one of the many trails on the island. Swipe to see a glimpse of one of those trails that lead to an expansive stretch of the 11 mile long beach on Kiawah!
