Quite the day in home inspection land… 😅
I had two inspections scheduled. The first ended early at the buyer’s request.
Inspection number two apparently decided it needed to provide the full experience.
First, I was stung by a yellow jacket that may have come from a ground nest I didn’t see—and I definitely did not stick around long enough to confirm it. Some inspection findings can remain unresolved. 😂
Then the client opened a crate and revealed a black box with red numbers inside.
Almost immediately, it started beeping.
My criminal justice brain did not say, “Let’s calmly assess the situation.”
It said, “RUN.” 🚨😂
Only after everyone had a brief moment of panic did we learn that Whitney had tested the GFCI at that exact moment, causing the box to start beeping.
Thanks, Whitney, for confirming the GFCI worked with the most dramatic timing possible. 😂
And the terrifying mystery box?
A sump pump.
After that, I wrapped up the workday discussing inspection pricing for a $4 million estate, because apparently the day also needed a luxury real estate subplot.
But it still wasn’t over.
On the way home, I came up behind someone standing outside their vehicle in the road. It turned out to be someone I knew whose family member had just been in a wreck.
Thankfully, my first-aid kit was already out and ready to go from the yellow jacket sting, so I was able to provide supplies while we waited for first responders.
So, to recap: shortened inspection, yellow jacket attack, mystery beeping box, perfectly timed GFCI test, multimillion-dollar estate, and roadside first aid.
Just another perfectly normal day in home inspection. 🏡🔍
