A sunny day on the road in Kodiak, Alaska. Come along from Pasagshak around Kalsin Bay, Middle Bay, past Cliff Point, and along Women’s Bay. Mountains and ocean views nearly the whole way.

I grew up in Kodiak, and I still can’t make this drive without pointing something out or wanting to stop for another picture. There’s just so much to look at!

Have you driven this stretch? What’s your favorite spot along the way?

Maybe it’s the rock nerd in me, but do you ever sit and wonder what had to happen to make a place look like this?

Layers of sediment that once settled flat, now standing nearly on end. Imagine the force—and the time—it took to turn them almost 90 degrees. And here we are, enjoying a peaceful afternoon beside them.

Kodiak gives me plenty of reasons to stop and stare. Sometimes it’s the wildlife. Sometimes it’s the rocks.

Anyone else spend part of their beach days pondering geology?
