Some homes carry a history. The best ones have another chapter waiting.

For the Hulihan family, 3702 Lotus was never just a house. It was Jean and John Hulihan’s dream home—a place where family gathered, traditions were celebrated, and nearly sixty years of memories were made. Through it all, Jean lovingly preserved the home’s original character and the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture she so deeply cherished.

On the last day of June, I had the privilege of representing the Hulihan family as this remarkable home began its next chapter.

Before we had even taken a single photo, two excited children ran over and greeted me with the warmest hugs. Standing there with the keys in one hand and the SOLD sign in the other, I couldn’t help but smile. In that moment, it was easy to see how much this home already meant to them.

Some homes simply leave a lasting impression.

When 3702 Lotus Drive in Point Loma came to market, I knew it would appeal to buyers who appreciated its architecture and history. What I didn’t anticipate was the extraordinary level of interest it would generate.

Built in 1929 and lovingly maintained by the same family for nearly sixty years, this Spanish Revival retained so much of what makes homes of this era so special. Original hardwood floors, period tile, built-ins, and thoughtful craftsmanship had been preserved rather than replaced.

The response was remarkable. We received eleven offers, accepted one above the asking price, secured a fully executed backup offer, and I’m still receiving calls and emails from buyers and agents hoping another opportunity might arise.

Authenticity.

After twenty-five years representing buyers and sellers throughout San Diego, I’ve come to believe that’s what people recognize when they walk into a truly special home. They may not describe it that way, but they feel it. And when a home with genuine architectural character becomes available in Point Loma, buyers are willing to compete for the opportunity.

The first photo has always made me smile. Fifteen years ago, a retired Navy pilot and former real estate broker relocated from Virginia with a clear vision: a beautifully built single-level home in a wonderful neighborhood, with a pool, palm trees, and every bedroom offering a private bath so family and friends could visit comfortably.

I found exactly that. When I handed him the keys, he smiled and said, “I have 23 more good years left.”

From that day forward, I had the privilege of helping both father and son through multiple real estate transactions while also sharing years of friendship, conversations, laughter, and the occasional homemade pecan pie.

When it was time for the family to sell this home, it was an honor to represent them once again.

Together, we thoughtfully prepared the property for the market, resulting in multiple offers, eight days on market, and a sale of $2,540,000—$15,000 over asking.

I’m proud of the outcome, but even more grateful for the trust that spanned fifteen years.
