Micromanagement Is Not Leadership

You cannot micromanage your way to an efficient city.

Laguna Beach has spent years losing experienced stewards and institutional knowledge while creating a culture where it can become easier to say yes than to challenge City Council members and City Management.

Look at the Promenade. Love it or hate it. That’s not the point. The issue is what residents were told, what was actually spent, what really happened with the trees and whether the public got the full truth.

These problems didn’t happen overnight. They are the result of years of leadership and decisions.

This November, vote the record! Not the familiar name.

Laguna Beach needs independent thinkers, transparency, accountability, and leaders with the integrity to stand up and say NO when something isn’t right.

It’s time for change.

WHEN DID MANAGEMENT STOP MEANING ROLLING UP YOUR SLEEVES?

Leadership isn’t just adding another position every time a department says it needs help.

Leadership is knowing WHY it needs help.

Where are the operational audits?
Where are the workload studies?
Where are the efficiency reviews?
Where is the accountability BEFORE adding more payroll?

Why roll up your sleeves and understand what’s actually happening inside a department when you can just hire another person?

But taxpayers deserve something better than that.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

How does a town of approximately 22,440 residents reach the point where we need to bring legal resources in-house to deal with the City’s legal matters?

And that legal team has its work cut out for them!

Our complaint seeking approximately $149.6 MILLION is coming down the pipeline.

The City and the legal team believes the claims aren’t credible.

YOU SHOULD READ THEM AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

Because transparency isn’t telling residents what to think.

Transparency is giving residents the information and letting THEM decide.

Want to read the complaint?

Comment “LAWSUIT” and we’ll send it to you.

THIS is what transparency looks like.

Ask questions.
Read the documents.
Follow the money.
Demand accountability.

Laguna Beach deserves leadership that leads by example, understands the departments it oversees and asks hard questions BEFORE spending more taxpayer money.

It’s time to stop managing problems by simply making government bigger.

THE RULES ARE THE RULES… UNLESS YOU’RE THE RIGHT PERSON?

Planning Commissioner Jorg Dubin lives in a commercial workspace that is not approved for residential use. Work has been done to convert the space for residential living without proper permits. City Council members are aware.

Yet where is code enforcement?

Then this property becomes the first property identified for the Laguna Beach Land Trust and is purchased!

Coincidence? You decide.

If this were an ordinary resident, would the City look the other way? We know the answer.....

DO THE SAME RULES APPLY TO EVERYONE?

No special treatment. No selective enforcement.

Same City. Same Code. Same Rules.

Laguna deserves transparency and change.

LESS POPULATION. MORE GOVERNMENT. MORE SPENDING.

Laguna Beach population: DOWN 1.4%
City employee count: UP
Total wages: UP
Retirement + health contributions: UP

In ONE YEAR, reported wages + retirement and health contributions increased by approximately $3 MILLION.

2024:
22,763 residents | 755 City employees
$51.3M wages | $11.2M retirement + health

2025:
22,440 residents | 771 City employees
$53.7M wages | $11.8M retirement + health

And here’s the part taxpayers should be asking about:

Are we getting $3 million MORE in service?

Adding employees and increasing payroll does not automatically make government more efficient. If taxpayers aren’t seeing measurable improvements, we’re not building a better system, we’re building a bigger liability.

It’s easy to spend money when it’s not yours.

ACCOUNTABILITY FOR TAXPAYER MONEY IS A MUST.

Laguna Beach needs leadership willing to question spending, measure results and demand accountability.

Change is needed. Term Limits are NEEDED!

There’s no foresight here! Just more bodies being added to a system that’s already broken.

I wish I could say I’m speechless about how we got here but I’m not.

Because this is what happens when decisions are made without thinking about the long-term impacts. How can you keep stacking payroll on top of dysfunction and expect a different result?

It’s easy to approve bigger budgets, hire more people, and keep spending when it’s not your personal money.

But residents are the ones funding it.
Residents are the ones dealing with the delays.
Residents are the ones paying for a system that isn’t working.

At some point, you have to ask.......
Who is this actually serving? It’s not you!!

🎙️ UNMASKED is saying the quiet part out loud.

Agree with them or not, transparency shouldn’t cost you your seat.

But in Laguna’s “boys club,” asking real questions doesn’t get answers. It makes you a target.

This didn’t happen overnight.
The budget issues didn’t just “appear.”
It’s the result of years of avoided decisions, unchecked spending, and zero accountability.

And now in an election year..... Suddenly everyone wants to talk about “fixing it.”

Let’s be clear!!!!
You don’t fix a problem by reelecting the same people who created it.

If you actually want to know who you’re voting for, don’t rely on mailers, rumors, headlines, or campaign promises.

👉 Watch them in real time.
👉 Watch how they act in the chambers.
👉 Watch how they respond when they’re questioned.

Because that tells you everything.

📍The next City Council meeting is help April 28th. Show up, tune in, and decide for yourself.

There are no words. Revenues are down, expenses are going up, and basic business fundamentals are nowhere to be found. This is how resident tax dollars are being spent in Laguna Beach. Laguna, we have a problem. Someone has to say it.

17/04/2026

Straight from someone who lived it. Former City Council Member George Weiss gives us an inside look at what is really going on in Laguna Beach.

Agree with him or not, this conversation needed to happen.

We are pulling back the curtain.
