Thomas Jefferson once said, “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” What does this have to do with my 80s photos? (Yep, that's me) Just hear me out.
Believe it or not kiddos, back then this was THE hairstyle.
It took a can of Aqua Net every day and backcombing until you achieved an extra foot of height at the top of your head. Big hair was the trend of the moment, and everyone was doing it. Just like Jefferson said, many "swam with the current!"
Obviously, we don't do this anymore.
That style has faded and we’re onto the next thing.
While lots of things come & go, there are some things that don't change. Things that can't change.
When it comes to buying a home, you can "swim the current" & look for the trending paint color, floor layout, kitchen cabinetry, and so on...but I encourage all my buyers to look for the one thing you can't change: LOCATION.
You can update your paint, your flooring, or even do a major reno that modifies the layout.
But if the house isn't in a neighborhood you actually love or works best for your family, it won't matter how many changes you make! You'll eventually move.
So you might think it’s silly that I quote Thomas Jefferson when it comes to buying a home, but it’s because I want to make sure buyers take the most important (unchangeable factor) into account. Remember it’s fine to “swim with the current” for styles, but for certain principles? Stand like a rock.
Optimize for the neighborhood you love & you'll be happy you did.

P.S. Thank you to my loving family & friends who eventually told me to change my hairstyle!
