Thinking about whether it still makes sense to buy a home instead of rent?
A new Zillow rent-vs-buy analysis found that the national “break-even point” for buying a home has dropped to about 6 years, down from 8.4 years in 2023.
That means if you plan to stay in a home for several years, buying may start to make more financial sense again, even with higher rates than we were used to a few years ago.
For Southwest Wisconsin buyers, this is especially worth looking at because our market is not the same as big coastal cities. Around here, home prices, taxes, rent, acreage, commute, and long-term plans all matter.
The big question is not just:
“Can I buy?”
It is:
“How long do I plan to stay, and does owning give me more stability than renting?”
If you are thinking about buying in Southwest Wisconsin, I can help you run the numbers for your situation, not just the national headline.
