Know what you can recycle.

Taking the tour at Republic Services was eye opening. Here in Southern NV we have the ‘everything in one’ bins but we still have guidelines to follow so the materials can get recycled.

Check out the photos for a list of products that can get recycled for each material; plastic, paper, glass, and aluminum. Make sure you are sending the right stuff.

Here are a few other tips to remember:

1. Empty, Clean and Dry
If it has any food or is wet, it can’t go through the machines and it will be thrown away. Clean out the jars, cans etc before putting them in the blue bin. Leave caps on bottles so the wet doesn’t get on everything else.

2. No plastic bags EVER
Grocery, retail, garage, Amazon packing bubbles, etc. If it stretches and you can poke your finger through it it can’t be recycled At Republic Services. There are other locations that can take them.

3. Compostable & Recyclable are not the same
If it can decompose you don’t need to recycle it. Nature already does that job.

4. Separate the material before putting it on the bin
If 2 materials are stuck together, the machine can decipher where to send it so it ends in the trash even if both materials are recyclable separately. Example would be the cereal box with the bag still inside.
