A cold call and a conversation are not the same.

That is a big part of why I have been getting back out into the field. Site walks. Parking lots. Actually standing in front of people. Simply can’t be done online! Which brings me to the experiment I cannot stop thinking about. A flip phone to cut out the doom scroll! Thirty days. Just to see what it reveals, and how much time I get back.

Presence is not a content strategy. It is the strategy.

The “aha” moment always happens in person. Driving the sites, touring the buildings, talking to the business owners, that’s when the comps from the computer start telling the real story. Screens can’t get you there. Ditto in person meetings, the screens can’t detect body language, nuance or build rapport like you can in person. Go outside and touch grass...or in this case - Buildings!

I keep thinking about this because for most of our lives there was always some reason not to do the big thing, you didn’t know how, you didn’t have the time, you didn’t know who to ask, you didn’t have the money or the right connections or whatever it was, so it just kind of sat there in the back of your mind as this thing you were going to do eventually.

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED FUNDAMENTALLY.

Because now you can take something you’ve been thinking about for five years and give it five minutes today and actually move it forward. You want to write a book, plan some insane trip, figure out an invention, start a business, learn how to build something, research some idea that makes absolutely no sense to anyone else yet…you can start I give you permission!)
Right now.
And it doesn’t mean you have to quit your job or suddenly clear your calendar or become an expert, I think that’s what people get hung up on, like starting has to be this huge dramatic commitment when really you can just sit down and say hey I’ve wanted to do this forever and I have no idea what I’m doing, tell me where to start.
That counts.
You started.
And I just keep coming back to that because I think years from now we’re going to look back at this period and realize the biggest thing about AI wasn’t even AI itself, it was what happened when suddenly regular people had access to all of this help and information and capability and the distance between having an idea and doing something about it got really, really small.
So whatever that thing is that you keep putting on the back burner because someday you’ll have more time or someday you’ll know more or someday you’ll finally get around to it…maybe stop waiting for someday.
Give it five minutes.
