Twenty years in brokerage taught me every skill I am using right now. And for most of those twenty years, I gave those skills away for free (happily)...radical generosity is how you build legacy in this business.
The condo maps. The associations. The municipalities. The market making push that literally creates demand for the development before the first shovel hits dirt. I did all of it for other people’s projects, on brokerage, because that is what a great broker does. I just never stopped taking notes.

The real thing that makes the entire CRE world go round is something nobody can put on a resume: knowing in your bones whether a project will work. This is my artform. I cannot always articulate why a deal is an emphatic yes or an emphatic no. It is the aggregate of every peer conversation, every client conversation, twenty years of watching why some projects flopped and why others flew. I cannot explain those intangibles. They are simply part of me now. And that right there is the real value of having a talented broker on your side.
Technique Offices was an emphatic yes and stands as the physical form of my art.
It’s exhilarating to execute at the standard I always wished I could hold for everyone else. Watching it come out of the ground. Watching the walls get framed, the trees get planted, the whole thing that was just an idea come to life. Finally watching someone walk in and realize this is going to be the home of their business. Obviously I’m fired up on this stuff. PS. Thank you to Erik Sexton for letting me riff on your podcast. 😁

Twenty-plus years ago, I sat at a CCIM lunch and watched a woman speak with such poise and confidence that I went back to my desk and wrote her a handwritten note. A week later she offered me a job on the phone, and my whole life in commercial real estate began. Grateful doesn’t cover it.
