: Ever wonder why furniture has legs and doesn’t just sit directly on the floor? There’s actually a practical reason that goes back thousands of years!
🪑Early furniture was raised off the ground to make it functional, whether that meant creating a comfortable height for sitting and eating, elevating a bed, or raising storage above the floor. In some cases, being elevated also helped keep furniture away from dirt, moisture and insects.
Over time, those functional supports became more than just practical. Furniture makers turned them into decorative features, and some of the earliest examples were shaped like animal legs, including lions and bulls.
What started as a practical necessity eventually became an opportunity for craftsmanship, design and even a display of status. ✨
