The Hawthorne Plaza (Mall) is being torn down!

So many memories! The tshirt shop, art store, and its famous escalators. At one time I sort of thought they’d reopen it. But after years became decades it was obvious that something must be done.

Looking forward to what is brought to the community 🏙️

HAWTHORNE, Calif., July 31, 2026 – The City of Hawthorne has secured a court order requiring the property owners of the Hawthorne Mall to commence site demolition no later than Aug. 14, 2026. The mandate follows a July 30 court hearing regarding the vacant property.

Say it ain’t so!!!

This is one fast food chain that I really liked. Salad and Go was exactly what I want on the go. Anytime I was in Arizona or Texas I’d immediately stop at Salad and Go.

One thing I heard was, PRIVATE EQUITY! It just doesn’t seem to work out in the end for small (any) businesses 🤔

After trying Salad and Go for the first time I immediately sent them an email and asked to open a franchise in Los Angeles. They sent back a kind respond saying, No they do not have franchise locations and are not in Los Angeles. A drive thru salad restaurant not being here is just crazy.

Anyway, I wish the owner and employees the best, and the private equity firm the worst.

Dog of the Month! Today we visited the South LA Animal Shelter today and met George. He's a 5 year old pup that is an Owner Surrender. He was quite the gentleman. I'm not sure of his entire background story bur I know that he only started barking when. I walked away. He knows how to "sit" and he knows "up" and possibly a few more.

If you have time and space to foster or adopt a dog like George stop by the South LA Animal Shelter on your local animal shelter.

So many of my teacher friends retired this year. I watched many have discussions with H.R. and other retirement partners about their readiness for retirement. Some can't retire because they are a few weeks short. One things I know for certain is that no matter what, our largest expense is housing.

Homeownership allows us all the opportunity to do a few things that can benefit us in retirement like:

1. Predict your housing cost long term during retirement
2. Tax Savings
3. Rental Income (
4. Paid off = No rent/mortgage
5. Strategic Planning - Long term thinking

Clean the hull!!! See, this is why I purposely did not want to get into her journey. This is exactly the type of adventure I’m into. She’s so brave and strong. Also raising money for a good cause.
