Our endorsement for District 3 City Council is for KATE CALLEN. Progress not promises.

Takeaways from Feb. 19 Candidates Forum

The full video of the second and final D3 Council Candidates forum can be viewed at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHWXRoKbSAY

Here are excerpts from my answers to questions about front-burner issues:

On city finances: “District 3 got almost two-thirds of the 2023 housing permits, but we didn’t get two-thirds of the infrastructure funds. In fact, some of that infrastructure money made its way into the 101 Ash Street settlement. We can’t ask the voters to approve any kind of new tax measures until City Hall gets its financial house in order.”

On obedience to the “strong mayor”: “When you get elected to [City Council], you have two ways you can go. You can serve your constituents and put their needs first. Or you can serve the Mayor and his special friends who have the money to help you climb the career ladder. My choice will be clear: My constituents will come first.”

On funding for Balboa Park: “Remember the Balboa Park centennial celebration? That failure captures why Balboa Park has been so mistreated. Elected officials profess their love for the Park, but they don’t want to pay for it. But they will pay consultants to study the Park, because it’s always easier to study something than to fix it.”

On labor union clout: “I grew up in a union family. My dad was a Teamster. My uncle was in the plumbers’ union, my cousins as well. Union loyalty is deep rooted in me. But I don’t think labor unions should be dictating government policy. I don’t think they should be calling the shots at City Hall.”

On transit use: “If I am elected to the City Council, I will be the only Councilmember who takes the bus to work, the #2 bus between North Park and downtown. And I will call upon my colleagues on the Council, on the Mayor, and on our staffs to walk our talk – let’s take public transit ourselves and then ask the public to do it.”

NATIONAL MARKET UPDATE

New Home Sales fell for the third straight month, down 8.6% in March, 12.6% below a year ago. The latest decrease was put to declining affordability and limited supply, although the month saw a 15,000-unit increase in inventories.

The NAR's March Pending Home Sales index of signed contracts on existing homes dipped for the fifth month in a row, “implying that multiple offers will soon dissipate and be replaced by much calmer and normalized market conditions.”

Freddie Mac added: "Swift home price growth and the fastest mortgage rate increase in over 40 years is finally affecting purchase demand." They expect this to "soften home price growth to a more sustainable pace later this year.”

As our Children, friends and families prepare to return to school here are a few tips to help you ease into our new lives.

Be sure to visit us www.kitmazis.com for more helpful tips and all your real estate needs. We are here for you!

1. a schedule. Outline a list of priorities and activities for each day, for both you and your children. This doesn’t have to be a stringent, inflexible list of to-dos. Instead, it can act as a loose structure that changes as the day demands. Remember, variety is just as important as routine, so switch up some of the activities now and then.

2. Set specific time blocks. (I know we have to do this with our daughter. ). Give your coworkers and children a heads-up about which parts of your schedule will be dedicated to them. When schooling your children, make your colleagues aware that you are unavailable for meetings. And while in meetings, tell your children you won’t be able to help with schoolwork.

3. Compartmentalize. Give your full focus to what you’re doing in the moment. Momentarily tuning out work to focus on your children will help you be more productive and successful in their homeschooling. Then you’ll be able to move onto your work, knowing your children’s needs have been met.

4. Get an early start. Waking up a little earlier can give you more time to yourself, which you can use to workout, get some work finished, or just relax. This will make the rest of your day go smoother, and you’ll feel ready to conquer the day!

5. Don’t stress. Easier said than done, right? But go easy on yourself! This situation is unprecedented, and as long as you’re giving it your best, you’re doing a great job! If you need extra stress relief, yoga, meditation, and reading are some great, relaxing activities you can do throughout the day.
