Here's some (hopefully) helpful tips. Feel free to share.
As a Los Angeles based Realtor I find great joy in placing people in their home. Knowing so many have had this dream turned upside down breaks my heart.
I want nothing more than to help folks know how to keep the property they worked so hard to get. I hope these tips along with the many others save folks from making the wrong decision.
I won't paint a fancy picture - this is a tough road ahead, but you can make it. There's a lot of us rooting for you. And many resources available at the moment. Take full advantage!
Don't sign anything that isn't from a trusted and vetted source. Right now, that's likely your mortgage servicer and your home insurance. Even still, READ all the fine print and get clarification when needed prior to signing off on deferment agreements or otherwise.
Trust few when the subject concerns your home loss and the lot it sat on.
Apply for forbearance with your mortgage servicer. Since many of you will need to pay rent for the foreseeable future, you'll want/ need to hold off on mortgage payments for a while, (yes, even if the home is gone it's still an active loan).
If your car was damaged, contact your auto insurance and also your auto loan servicer for next steps
If you need vital records, LA county recorder is providing documentation for free.
Income taxes are deferred - see franchise tax board for information.
FEMA may have restrictions on GoFundMe and other fundraising avenues. See their website for more information if applicable.
Again, I, along with countless others, just want to help and see you all get back home as quickly as possible.
You got this! πͺπΎ
