💥 WEEK ENDING 6/19/26 - MARKET UPDATE 💥
Mortgage rates saw some volatility this week, but ultimately ended almost exactly where they began.
Early in the week, rates improved to their lowest levels in about a month before giving some of those gains back following Wednesday's Federal Reserve announcement.
The Fed left rates unchanged, which was widely expected. The surprise came from updated projections showing that many Fed officials now expect rates to remain higher for longer than previously anticipated. That initially pushed rates higher before markets settled down later in the week.
The good news is that mortgage rates behaved much better than some other interest rate sectors and managed to recover a meaningful portion of the mid-week losses. By week's end, rates were little changed from where they started.
Looking ahead, inflation data will likely become a bigger focus again. Markets continue to watch for signs that inflation is cooling enough to support lower rates, while also monitoring broader economic conditions.
On the housing side, the story remains largely unchanged. Inventory has improved compared to last year, buyers are still active, and opportunities continue to exist for those who are prepared and positioned correctly.
Bottom line: despite this week's Fed-related headlines, mortgage rates remain in the same general range they've occupied over the past several weeks. While rates are still elevated compared to earlier periods, the market continues to reward buyers and homeowners who focus on strategy rather than trying to perfectly time every market move.
