Historic or Older Homes in Fort Collins

Older and historic homes often hide their biggest risks in the details. Outdated wiring methods, aging materials, or past repairs done to older standards can appear harmless but pose modern safety or performance concerns. Experience and attention to detail are essential when inspecting these properties.

Have you had your home tested for Radon?

January is National Radon Action Month, making it the perfect time for Fort Collins homeowners to take a closer look at indoor air quality. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found throughout Colorado. You can’t see it or smell it, but elevated radon levels can pose serious long-term health risks.

The only way to know if radon is present in your home is through testing. A professional radon test provides clear answers, peace of mind, and—if elevated levels are detected—guidance on next steps.

If you’re considering radon testing or have questions about your home’s radon risk, give us a call. Colorado Professional Inspections is happy to help you determine the best option for your home.

🚧 Construction on the Power Trail Harmony Crossing has begun! This connection — spanning from Golden Meadows Park to Keenland Drive — will provide a safe option for pedestrians and cyclists to pass under Harmony Road, finalizing a fully-connected Power Trail.

📅 The full trail is expected to be finished by Spring 2027, creating a continuous paved route from Trilby Road to the Spring Creek Trail.

Is Radon a Problem in Fort Collins, CO?

If you live in Fort Collins, CO, the answer is YES — radon is a serious and widespread issue across Northern Colorado.

In fact, our region has some of the highest radon levels in the entire country, according to long-term EPA studies.

🏠 What this means for homeowners & buyers:

Radon is an odorless, invisible radioactive gas that can enter your home through the foundation. Many homes in Fort Collins — even brand-new builds — test above the EPA’s recommended safety level.

❗ Why Radon Testing Matters Here
• Fort Collins sits in a high-risk Zone 1 area
• Soil composition allows radon to move easily
• Weather patterns can increase indoor radon levels
• Even homes with mitigation systems still need ongoing testing

🌬️ The only way to know your home is safe is to test.

Whether you’re buying a home or have lived in yours for years, a professional radon test gives you accurate, reliable results.

📍 Local Insight:
Colorado Professional Inspections has tested hundreds of homes throughout Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, and Northern Colorado — and elevated levels are extremely common in every neighborhood.

✨ Protect your home. Protect your family.
Schedule your radon test today and get peace of mind.

Occasionally, I come across a great video that is useful for homeowners. Drywall repair seems to be one of those things that is at the same time very do-able, and very mysterious to a new do-it-yourselfer. Most of these techniques use something referred to as hot mud. Hot mud is a drywall compound powder that is fortified with other ingredients that make it especially suitable for repair work. Hot mud dries quicker and harder. I frequently use either the 5 minute or the 20 minute formulas for plaster repairs where I know there's going to be a lot of stress because it's an older house with structural movement. Good luck with your home projects.
