Are You Credit Ready to Buy a Home?
A lot of buyers assume they have to have “perfect credit” before talking to a lender. That’s not always true. What matters is understanding where your credit stands, what may be affecting your score, and whether you’re financially positioned for the type of loan you want.
Your credit can impact your loan approval, interest rate, monthly payment, down payment requirements, and overall buying power.
Before you start house hunting, take a look at a few key things:
Know your current credit score
Review your credit reports for errors
Make sure bills are being paid on time
Keep credit card balances as low as possible
Avoid opening unnecessary new accounts
Be careful with large purchases before applying for a mortgage
Talk with a qualified lender before assuming your score is too low
And remember, your credit score is only one piece of the homebuying puzzle.
If buying a home is one of your goals, the first step is not scrolling through houses. The first step is understanding your financial position and creating a plan.
