SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are thrilled to share that Marion has been named one of Ohio Magazine’s Best Hometowns for 2026–2027!

Ohio Magazine’s editors selected Marion for its downtown redevelopment successes and rich sense of history, including the home, presidential library and museum, and final resting place of President Warren G. Harding.

To determine this year’s honorees, Ohio Magazine solicited nominations and visited communities across the state, evaluating finalists in six categories: Community Spirit, Education, Entertainment, Health and Safety, Business Environment, and Culture and Heritage.

This recognition shines a spotlight on the people, places, history, and community spirit that make Marion special—and we couldn't be more proud to call Marion home!

Marion will be featured in the November/December 2026 and July/August 2027 issues of Ohio Magazine, as well as online, giving readers across Ohio a chance to discover what makes our community worth a visit.

The Lydia Reimagined ✨

Once vacant and deteriorating, with boarded windows and decades of neglect, the building at the corner of Main and Church Streets in downtown Marion has been transformed into one of the community's most visible revitalization success stories. Known today as **The Lydia**, the historic building underwent a more than $4 million rehabilitation that brought new life to an entire city block. Named for Lydia Baker, wife of Marion founder Eber Baker, the building now honors the city's past while helping shape its future.
Today, The Lydia is home to nine loft apartments and three thriving restaurants—Lazeez Grill, Whit's Frozen Custard, and OX-B's. What was once an empty building now draws residents and visitors throughout the day, creating activity, energy, and investment in the heart of downtown. The project has helped expand dining options, increase foot traffic, activate nearby Founders Park, and demonstrate the powerful role historic buildings can play in strengthening a community.
As a Celebrated 250 building, The Lydia shows what is possible when vision, perseverance, and investment come together. This project turned one of Marion's most prominent vacant buildings into a destination and a catalyst for downtown revitalization.

3rd Thursdays are back and we are so here for it! Seeing Main Street full of life, people, purpose, and color brings our mission into perspective every time. We’re reimagining Main Street.
