We so are excited to share a few memories from our wonderful BER Inc. Employee Appreciation Night this past Wednesday. Team Members from Fisher & Rocha Inc. & Rocha Inc., Mattapoisett Laundromat, Mail Box Services, TownWear and the BER Management Team gathered to commend the effort, teamwork, and successes of employees old and new. Our celebration included a Sunset Cruise along the Cape Cod Canal with Hy-Line Cruises, delicious bites and beverages courtesy of Rustico , and a beautiful cake by Artisan Bake Shop. A fabulous time was had by all! Thank you to our wonderful team and community!

Fisher & Rocha are working to help preserve a part of Fairhaven’s history. In 1841, a Japanese 14 year old, Manjiro Nakahama and fellow shipmates were caught out at sea in a vicious storm. Their ship became stranded for six months on an island in the Pacific. A passing whaling ship found the crew and rescued them. Nakahama decided to join the ship captain on his voyage back to Fairhaven, MA in 1843. Here, he went to school in a Sconticut neck school house, went to church in town and moved in with a family on Oxford St. His whaling ship rescuer bought a farm on Crescent Drive and Manjiro helped him build this beautiful farm house. Nakahama lived here until he returned to sea making his way back to his former home in Japan. Fisher & Rocha are excited to be bringing this historic farm house back to life, to keep the legacy of the first Japanese resident of Fairhaven alive.
