Want to know the not-so-glamorous side of being a landlord?

We accepted a tenant application with no prior evictions, an acceptable income-to-rent ratio, and decent (but not perfect) credit. We decided to give them a chance, despite advice from industry professionals to be extremely strict with tenant qualifications.

We received the first month’s rent and security deposit… and then didn’t receive another rent payment for the next four months.

Not only did we lose several months of rent, but we also had to replace carpet that was only four months old.

The reality of real estate isn’t always pretty. There are hard lessons, unexpected expenses, and difficult decisions along the way.

Thankfully, we got the property back in shape and it’s rented again.

Huge shoutout to the City of Medina for being so great to work with, and to our contractors who do so much of the heavy lifting…or in this case, the crappy lifting. 😉😂

At the end of the day, we love what we do and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every challenge teaches us something, and that’s just part of the game.
