I may be a little biased, but here’s my take.
Memphis needs strong leadership. I’m not saying our leaders aren’t putting in the work, but we need more accountability, transparency, & vision for the future. Too often, we’ve patched things with quick fixes instead of tackling the root causes poverty, education, opportunities for our youth, & economic growth. Our city deserves leaders who aren’t afraid to make tough decisions & who focus on building long-term change, not temporary solutions.
Now with the National Guard being brought here, I see both sides.
Yes, their presence could deter violence, give some relief to our low staffed at MPD & bring national attention that “might” open the door for resources. But it also risks creating more tension & it makes Memphis look like a war zone. And let’s be honest the MEDIA has already painted us in that light & we’ve allowed that image to stick. Sending troops will only deepen that picture instead of changing the narrative. The bigger financial risk is perception when a city looks unstable, it can scare away investors, tourism & long-term growth, making it even harder for us to move forward.
There’s something about Memphis that people are trying to get their hands on. This is a special community & we can’t lose sight of that. We need to stand up, protect what’s ours, and demand real solutions. The question is: what does that look like, and are we ready to come together to make it happen?
