Welcome to Black History Month!
This is a special time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans throughout U.S. history, from activists and civil rights pioneers to community builders and industry trailblazers.

Black history in real estate is extremely important as well.
As of recent data in 2025, African American homeownership continues to lag behind other racial groups. According to the National Association of Realtors’ most recent “Snapshot of Race and Home Buying in America,” the homeownership rate for Black Americans was about 44.7% as of 2023, trailing White homeownership at about 72.4% and remaining the lowest of all major racial groups despite a modest annual gain.

More recent analyses also indicate that in 2025 the rate has dipped to around 43.9% in the second quarter, marking a multi-year low, which underscores how far we still have to go to bridge the wealth and ownership gap in this country.

I challenge you this month.
If homeownership is on your goals list, put it at the top of your priority list this February. As future buyers and sellers, make intentional choices when selecting who represents you. Take the time to interview Black real estate professionals and choose the person with the best skill set to represent your needs.

Let’s continue to bridge the gap and level the playing field.
