Have you ever been to a show at If notโฆ why not?! This place is AWESOME.
Our buddy Richard Cook gave us the full backstage tour and thereโs WAY more going on behind those curtains than most of us realize.
We sit in the audience, eat our popcorn, clap at the end and head home.
Meanwhile backstage thereโs an entire army of volunteers building sets, organizing props, putting together costumes, rehearsing lines, running lights and sound and giving us the shoe of a lifetime.
We got to see everything: the dressing rooms, the prop rooms, the costume closets, the rehearsal spaces, the scene shop where they build those sets from scratch.
Most people in Mesquite have no idea how much talent is sitting right here in our own backyard.
This building has been part of Mesquite since the 1940s and the theatre continues upgrading and expanding. Theyโve got some really cool things happening with the ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฌ youth program helping kids get involved in theater and the arts.
And yesโฆ before you askโฆ Theyโve got some really fun shows coming up too: ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ค, ๐๐ง๐ง๐ข๐โฆ and more.
Theyโre also hoping to expand the theater someday, which would be incredible for our community.
The best part about all this? This place survives because local people support it.
Volunteers. Donations. People buying tickets. People showing up to support.
So if youโve ever thought: โI should really go check that place out somedayโฆโ
๐๐๐ซ๐'๐ฌ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง.
Go see a show. Volunteer. Work the Star Bar. Help build sets. Eat popcorn. Support local artists. Because places like this make our town special.
