Special Olympics Miami-Dade – Miamivicetropics Golf Season Recruitment

We are seeking volunteers for the 2026 Special Olympics Miami-Dade Miami Vice Tropics golf season. Golf experience is preferred but not required. Most importantly, we welcome individuals who enjoy working with others and supporting athletes of all abilities.

Season Kickoff Event
Tuesday, September 2nd
6–8 p.m.
Palmetto Golf Course (152nd Street and US‑1)
Athlete and volunteer assessments, introductions, and team placement.

Paperwork Deadlines
Athletes: Due September 1, 2026
Volunteers, Coaches, Partners: Due September 3, 2026

Weekly Schedule
Practices: Wednesdays, 6–8 p.m.
Volunteers and partners should arrive by 5:30 p.m.
Athletes will be grouped by skill level.

Those who pass the skills assessment may compete to play nine holes with a partner.

Partners must be available for at least six nine-hole rounds, signed by the starter at the facility where they play. Rounds may be completed during Wednesday practices or additional times throughout the week.
Par‑3 courses do not qualify.

Competition Pathway
Advancement is not guaranteed. Competition is challenging and based on performance.

9 a.m.–12 p.m.

Area Games (Mandatory for potential advancement)
Monday, September 28th
Miami Lakes Golf Club
9 a.m.–12 p.m.

Regional Competition (for advancing athletes)
Monday, October 5th
Miami Lakes Golf Club
9 a.m.–12 p.m.

Athletes and partners advancing in the nine-hole competition will have a separate match on Saturday, October 24th (location TBD).

State Games – Orange National Golf Championships
December 3rd–5th
Winter Garden, Florida

Community Service Hours
Students may earn community service hours by volunteering at practices. Roles are available for all experience levels.

The Miami Vice Tropics basketball team had an unforgettable weekend at the State Games hosted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex — bringing home gold in both the 5v5 Unified and Individual Skills competitions.

This past weekend, Tracy and Joshua traded the office for the open water at the 29th Annual Key West Paddle Classic. They tackled the grueling 12-mile circumnavigation of the island as a team in the OC-2 division. While the conditions were about as good as they get, the ocean side still threw enough side chop at us to “crush a whale”—or at least test every ounce of our resolve.
A huge thank you to the race organizers and the sponsors who make this iconic community event possible. We especially want to thank the hotels that hosted us on race day; we started and finished at the Beachside Resort, and the Blue Flamingo for the awards and immediate after-party were great changes to this years event.
We are thrilled to have completed the course together and have already locked in our registration for next year’s race. While the events were held in Key West, we chose to stay at Grassy Flats Resort in Marathon. We always look forward to a great dinner on the Palm Deck after a rewarding day on the water.
