While several property tax cut proposals are in the works, one has finally been approved by the Florida House, putting it on track to appear on the ballot later this year. That bill — HJR 203 — would exempt all homestead properties from non-school property taxes starting on Jan. 1, 2027. In addition, the amendment would prohibit local governments from reducing their law enforcement funding. After passing through all of its committees, the bill was ultimately approved by House lawmakers on Thursday by a vote of 80-30.

WHAT’S NEXT?
Now, the proposal will go to the Senate for consideration. However, the Senate has yet to put its own bill out yet, and with less than a month remaining in the regular session, the proposal still has several hurdles to clear.

Other proposals include elderly property owners, increasing homestead exemptions for non-school property taxes and deceased owners homestead transfer to their heirs.

Y’ALL I need a minute to process that I NOW have a 16 year old!!😫😬🥹 Happy Blessed Birthday to my Kaleb Joshua. I gave him that name because in the bible, Caleb and Joshua made it to the promise land, they weren’t intimidated by the giants they saw when they spied out the land for Moses. They were great leaders and not followers when the rest of the Israelites were too scared to conquer the land that God had ALREADY said were theirs. They were strong even in their very old ages. I pray my Kaleb grow to great stature, leadership, strength and wisdom, always abiding by the Word of God. Mighty Man of God you will align with the Lords plan and purpose for your life, you will choose well and avoid the unnecessary pitfalls of life.
