How do I know how much equity is in my home? 🤔

This is one of the most common questions I get from homeowners—and for good reason.

Your home equity is the difference between what your home is worth and what you still owe on your mortgage.

Here’s a simple way to think about it:

👉 Step 1: Find your home’s current market value
(This isn’t what you hope it’s worth—it’s what buyers would realistically pay in today’s market.)

👉 Step 2: Subtract your mortgage balance
(You can find this on your latest mortgage statement or online account.)

👉 The difference = your equity

Example:
If your home is worth $500,000 and you owe $300,000…
You have approximately $200,000 in equity.

But here’s where it gets important 👇
Online estimates can be inaccurate, and even small differences in value can mean tens of thousands in equity.
