Some of our Modern Title friends stopped by the office yesterday.

PureWest has a minority ownership interest in Modern Title. Before joining the PWRE team, I wasn’t quite sure what to think of that. Relationships between brokerages and title companies are common outside Montana, but not as common here. What I’ve appreciated seeing firsthand is watching them operate with the same independence and professionalism whether there’s a PWRE agent involved in the transaction or not. That’s not something you can fake, and it’s not something ownership can force.

Agents only see what they’re actually working on, affiliation has nothing to do with it. And our PWRE agents have great relationships and continue to do business with all the title companies in their markets. Because as we all know, our clients make the decisions and are free to work with whoever they wish.

Nothing changes how true professionals show up for their clients.

Glad they made the stop.

Filmed a quick preview video for the team ahead of our Pure Success Summits in a few weeks.

I love getting agents together to share ideas, network, and learn from one another. There are truly some incredible connections that PureWest agents have made at these events, connections that have led to transaction referrals across Montana and Idaho, even on some of our biggest sales. More importantly, being together is a chance for us to hear from all of you on how things are going and what you need to be successful.

We've got a full agenda planned, legal updates, the Christie's team joining us, Ninja training, a state of the company, plus plenty of time built in to just connect. Summit is one of the best chances we have to close that gap, and actually be in the room together instead of hearing about it secondhand.

Bozeman on the 6th of October. Whitefish on the 8th.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Joined the Missoula team for an onsite meeting this week. It is always fun to meet away from the office, seeing a unique listing one of our agents brings to market. This one’s in the Historic Wilma in downtown Missoula, views in every direction.

The opportunity to share listings and needs across PureWest is one of the benefits of working with an established network like ours. More eyes, more connections, more chances to match the right buyer with the right property, even one as unique as this.

After the meeting, the team toured a few listings, and it took me back to when I first started in this business. The office tour always felt like the most “real estate agent” thing you could do, whatever that actually means. Something about walking through a property with other agents just hits different than a photo on a screen.

That’s the kind of relationship building that makes this job worth doing, inside the office and out. Relationships for life, more than words around here.

One thing I’ve really loved about PureWest is that same commitment to community I grew up with in this business. Being part of the places you serve isn’t a talking point, it’s just how you show up.

Put on my wayback hat and MC’d Legacy Night for Sentinel High School this weekend. Part of the night was inducting the newest class into the Hall of Fame, and it was great hearing their stories and the advice they had for the kids coming up behind them.

I made it very clear this is as close as I’ll ever get to an athletic hall of fame myself, but we had a lot of fun with it.

(Overdue thank you to Sentinel baseball for letting me have a hat during season one a few years back. Wayback isn’t that far back because baseball wasn’t a high school sport when I was there!)

I’m rarely completely surprised by someone or something, but MAR President Angela Klein-Hughes got me last week when she gave me the Golden Eagle Award.

I often tell her that my most stressful days chairing the Forms Committee for the Montana Association of Realtors are the ones when she’s teaching CE courses somewhere across Montana, because she always comes back with the craziest stories from her students, and somehow those stories need forms-based solutions that we then get to tackle. Her speech joked that whenever her number pops up on my phone, there’s a brief moment of dread, “oh God, what now.”

But what stuck with me most was what she said about disagreement. We don’t always land in the same place, and honestly, that’s the point. Different perspectives make the work better, and at the end of the day the goal has always been the same, build better tools and better education so our members can do right by the people they serve.

Grateful for the recognition. But more than that, grateful for people like Angela, the ones willing to push back, ask the hard questions, and make this work better because they care enough to do it right.

I guess weekends are for the bears around here.

Katie, Ryon, and I got a little quality time with Monte this week. A lot more approachable than the one that wandered down my street last week, and considerably better dressed.

Good company, good business meetings, good week.

Had the honor tonight of giving the oath of office to my friend and colleague, Brint Wahlberg, as he was installed as the 2027 President of the Montana Association of Realtors.

I’ve known Brint through a lot of different chapters, podcasting, football, real estate, and in every one of them he’s shown up the same way, dedicated, dependable, and all in. Good leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about showing up, listening, and doing right by the people counting on you. That’s Brint. Our industry is lucky to have him stepping up to lead, and I know our members are in good hands.

Congratulations, Brint.

“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

This forum is always one of the more enjoyable industry things I get to do a couple times a year. Putting together a legal update with some great minds from across the state, and having a conversation with a room full of practitioners who genuinely want to be better at what they do.

One of the things I always come back to: ignorance isn’t a defense. Not to a client, not to a board, not to yourself. The test I use is simple. If I were on the stand defending how I handled a transaction, can I defend my work and would I be proud of it? And if my own mom were buying the property, what would I want her to know before she signed anything? On disclosures, more is always better than less.

That’s the standard I want for this industry, not the minimum you can get away with, but the version of this job you’d stand behind under any light.

Spent the afternoon prepping for tomorrow’s Legal Forum at the Montana REALTORS® convention, three hours of continuing education with Jaymie Bowditch, Robyn Erlenbush, Angela Klein-Hughes, and yours truly. We’ve got a good lineup of topics, disclosure issues, dual agency risk, what to actually do the day you get named in a claim. I love participating in these forums because I feel we get right to the point on real issues agents across the industry are dealing with right now.

Also got some time in with our senior leaders today, caught up with an old industry friend doing cool things, and sat in on a conversation about code updates with the city. Good day to get some boxes checked off the list.

Found some time to not “work” on Sunday but had a full day helping run Opening Day for Missoula Youth Football. Snuck away for an hour to watch Hannah and her team get the win in her first soccer game. Meanwhile James and his Mavs teammates were in Butte for the first doubleheader of their fall baseball season. Almost made being back in the office today seem slow by comparison.

Spent some time getting ready for a big week, including leading a Legal Forum update for continuing education with some of my most trusted colleagues at the MAR convention. It’s always enjoyable to dive into the major legal topics of the moment and help agents serve their clients better and protect themselves. Who knew risk management could be fun?
