A Psychology Today piece on supporting elderly parents through a move to assisted living captures the emotional weight on adult children well. Anger, resentment, guilt, fear are all common feelings families bring into the process. What the article doesn't address is what happens when those emotions spill into the operational side of the move.

Families under stress don't coordinate well. Siblings who live far away second-guess decisions made by the sibling who's on the ground, while parents who feel their autonomy is slipping push back on vendor selections or timelines. Well-meaning family members show up on moving day with conflicting ideas about what goes and what stays, and any or all of these situations can derail a project.

Having a single point of coordination tasked with managing the process rather than the relationships absorbs a lot of that friction, keeping the operational side moving while families work through the emotional side on their own terms.
