TDH is urging Tennesseans to take action against tick-borne diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, and alpha-gal syndrome. 🕷️

🛡️ Simple prevention tips:
• Use an EPA-registered insect repellent
• Wear long sleeves & pants in wooded or grassy areas
• Check for ticks after outdoor activities

Wilson County property owners --> this one's for you!🏘️🏡

Everyone should soon be receiving a notice from Property Assessor Stephen Goodall. This notice will inform you of your property’s revaluation. You will likely see that your property’s value increased.

Let me start off with assuring you that this DOES NOT guarantee that your property tax bill for this year is increasing. Tennessee law requires Wilson County to update property values on a regular basis. The last time this happened was in 2021. Wilson County DID NOT just randomly decide “let’s try to increase revenue this year and just increase everyone’s property values.” This was required of us by the State of Tennessee. This process tries to ensure that you are not paying more in property taxes relative to your neighbors and the rest of Wilson County.

In addition, this process is also required by State law to be “revenue neutral.” This means that after this process the county will receive a new tax rate that was calculated by the State to keep the county’s property tax revenue the same as it was last year. This tax rate will be much lower than our current tax rate. Our current rate is 1.9089%. The new tax rate that the State will recommend should be lower than this.

Know Your Rights - If your property value seems higher than fair market value, you have the right to appeal your value. You can contact Stephen Goodall’s office to request an appeal. Appeals are only heard once per year in the month of June. I recommend that you contact them before the end of May to get on the schedule. If you have questions about this appeal process please feel free to contact me. I have been through this process and I have also served on the Board that hears these appeals.
