Kickoff in Bloomington, quiet in the country.....the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn is open October 30 and 31!

IU plays Minnesota at home on Halloween, and the Schoolhouse is an easy drive to Bloomington. Spend the day at the game or out in the late color, then come back to the four-person hot tub, the fire pit and a cozy fireplace. Sleeps 4, and your dog is welcome too!

Everything really does get better with coffee.

For National Coffee Day, I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to make it a little more interesting... my Spicy Coffee Recipe.

Indiana's oldest country inn has a ghost, a bootlegger's secret, and one of the best burgers in Brown County.....

Story Inn sits at the end of a winding stretch of State Road 135, about 13 miles south of downtown Nashville, in a village founded in 1851. Guests have logged sightings of the Blue Lady in the inn's guestbooks for years. During Prohibition, a Brown County sheriff caught a moonshine still right on site, and by the time the case reached court, half the evidence had gone missing!

For us it's a special-occasion dinner, perfect for an anniversary or a birthday. For something more relaxed, grab a seat at the bar in the Still Tavern. Local singer-songwriters play there Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5.

I fell in love with this property the moment I stepped foot on it. Over the years, families traveling with children who have special needs have shared with me how their children seem to exhale here....to relax, explore, and simply be themselves. It's one of the things I treasure most about The HELM.

Peak color, midweek quiet.

The second and third weeks of October are the best the woods look all year, and midweek is when you get Brown County at its actual pace..... no crowds on the trails, no wait for a table in Nashville.

Helmsburg Homestead sits on five acres with a swim spa, and we have Sunday through Thursday nights open right through peak color. Single nights are fine, so you can come for one or stay the week.
