The sky feels especially somber tonight as the 9/11 Memorial lights rise above New York City and shine across the Hudson River.
Looking at them, my heart aches—not only for the thousands of innocent lives taken in such a horrific act of terrorism, but also because it sometimes feels as though too many Americans have forgotten the true weight of what happened that day.
We must never forget the victims, the heroes, the families whose lives were forever changed, or the way we came together as one nation in the days that followed. We were not divided by politics, backgrounds, or beliefs. We were simply Americans—grieving together, standing together, and proud of our country.
Sadly, that sense of unity seems to have been slowly dismantled over the years. Remembering September 11 is not about living in fear or anger. It is about honoring those we lost, protecting what unites us, and never taking our freedom or our country for granted.
May these lights always remind us to remember, to honor, and to stand together.
We are Americans. We should be proud of that—and we must never forget. 🇺🇸
