PSA FOR INDIANA HOMEOWNERS:
If your home has been damaged by flooding or severe storms, please donโt assume youโre on your own just because you donโt have flood insurance. There are steps you can take right now. โค๏ธ
๐ 1. REPORT YOUR DAMAGE TO INDIANA 211
This is one of the most important things you can do.
Indiana uses these damage reports to determine how badly communities have been affected and what additional state or federal assistance may be available.

๐ You can also submit a damage report online through Indiana 211.
If Indiana 211 is not currently accepting reports for your county or specific storm, contact your county Emergency Management Agency directly.
๐ 2. CHECK FOR INDIANA STATE DISASTER ASSISTANCE
Indiana has a State Disaster Relief Fund that may provide assistance to eligible homeowners who are uninsured or underinsured when funding has been activated for a particular disaster.
Availability depends on the specific storm, county and disaster declaration, so check the Indiana Department of Homeland Securityโs current Disaster Resources for Survivors page.
๐บ๐ธ 3. CHECK FOR FEMA ASSISTANCE โ IF FEDERAL ASSISTANCE IS APPROVED
FEMA Individual Assistance is not automatically available after every flood.
If a Presidential disaster declaration authorizes Individual Assistance for your county, eligible homeowners and renters may be able to receive assistance for things such as:
โข Essential home repairs
โข Temporary housing
โข Certain personal property losses
โข Other eligible disaster-related expenses

FEMA assistance is generally a grant and does not have to be repaid, but eligibility and the type/amount of assistance depend on your individual circumstances.
๐ฐ 4. CHECK FOR SBA DISASTER LOANS
The U.S. Small Business Administration doesnโt only help businesses!
When SBA disaster assistance is available for your area, eligible homeowners may apply for low-interest disaster loans to repair or replace their primary residence, and homeowners and renters may be eligible for loans for damaged personal property.
โ ๏ธ These are LOANS and must be repaid. Your county must also be included in an eligible disaster declaration.
๐ธ 5. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING BEFORE CLEANING UP
Before throwing damaged items away, take LOTS of photos and videos.
Document:
โข Water lines on walls
โข Flooring and drywall damage
โข Furniture
โข Appliances
โข Clothing and personal belongings
โข Structural damage
โข Exterior damage
โข Anything else affected by the water
Keep receipts for cleanup supplies, repairs, temporary housing and other disaster-related expenses whenever possible.
Then begin safely removing wet materials and drying the home to help prevent additional damage and mold.
๐งน 6. LOOK FOR LOCAL CLEANUP & RECOVERY RESOURCES
Contact Indiana 211, your county Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross and local community organizations for information about available cleanup supplies, shelter, food, housing and other recovery resources.

Even if youโre uninsured or underinsured, donโt automatically assume there is no help available.
Reporting your damage helps local and state officials understand the extent of the disaster and can play an important role in determining whether additional assistance becomes available.
