🌾 A NEW BOARDWALK FOR NORTH MYRTLE BEACH?
Here’s one to watch in Cherry Grove 👀
North Myrtle Beach has plans for a new public boardwalk along Lake Drive and 39th Avenue North, beside House Creek and the Cherry Grove marsh. And before you picture shops, restaurants and the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, this is something completely different. 🌾🦀🎣
Plans submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers show a boardwalk approximately 1,488 feet long and 12 feet wide, designed to give residents and visitors better access to the marsh for nature viewing and fishing. City documents earlier this year showed preliminary design completed and the Corps permit issued, with funding still needing to be finalized.
Interestingly, this isn’t a brand-new idea. North Myrtle Beach planning documents have discussed extending the boardwalk around the Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve/Lake Drive area for years, noting that the extension would happen as funding allowed.
Now, The Sun News reports the city still needs about $1.8 million more to make it happen.
And THAT makes this an interesting community conversation...
🌊 Would you use a boardwalk through the Cherry Grove marsh?
🎣 Would you like more public fishing and nature-viewing access?
💰 And where should projects like this fall among the city’s other infrastructure priorities?
I’d love to hear what locals think. Yes, no, or “love the idea, but not at that price?” 👇
