LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: Conway’s Rivertown Bistro

A lot of people don’t realize how much Conway’s music scene has quietly grown over the years.

Rivertown Bistro became part of that evolution by blending historic downtown Conway charm with live music that pulls people off the beach and into the heart of the city.

The building itself reflects Conway’s older character — brick streets, river history, and that slower pace locals fiercely protect. And when live music kicks in downtown at night, you can almost feel Conway balancing its old identity with its newer creative energy.

Years ago, many people treated Conway like the place you drove THROUGH on the way to the beach.

Now? Places like this are giving people a reason to stay awhile.

And honestly… that might be one of the coolest transformations in Horry County.

Do you think Conway’s live music scene gets enough credit?

The old Pavilion created something modern entertainment almost never does anymore:

Shared memories.

Thousands of people from completely different places all heard the same songs blasting across Myrtle Beach during the summer. And decades later, they STILL connect those songs to this area.

Certain tracks became unofficial “songs of the beach” simply because they were constantly playing near the rides, arcades, and boardwalk crowds.

For many families, hearing those songs today feels like opening a time capsule.

You remember who you were with.
You remember what the air smelled like.
You remember the lights reflecting off the ocean.

Funny how music can preserve a place better than photographs sometimes.

If the Pavilion could come back for ONE night exactly the way it used to be… would you go?

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: Star Tavern – Little River

If walls could talk, Star Tavern would probably need its own documentary.

This longtime Little River staple has built a reputation as one of those places where locals, bikers, boaters, musicians, and tourists somehow all end up in the same room listening to live music together.

And honestly… that’s part of what makes it special.

Little River has always had a rough-around-the-edges coastal personality compared to the polished resort image of Myrtle Beach. Star Tavern fits that history perfectly. It feels authentic because it IS authentic.

No giant corporate vibe.
No pretending to be something it’s not.

Just cold drinks, stories, local characters, and live music keeping the place alive year after year.

Some bars are designed by marketing teams.
Places like this are built by time.

What’s your favorite memory there?

If you grew up coming to Myrtle Beach before smartphones took over the world… you probably remember this sound:

Music drifting through the air from the Pavilion.

Before people were walking around staring at screens, families walked the boardwalk hearing a mix of beach music, rock, country, carnival ride noise, and arcade sounds all blending together into one giant summer soundtrack.

You could hear songs before you even saw the rides.

For a lot of people, the Pavilion wasn’t just an amusement park — it was the soundtrack of childhood vacations, first dates, teenage summers, and late-night walks by the ocean.

And somehow, everybody remembers the music differently… but they all remember hearing it.

What song instantly takes you back to the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion days?

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro – Little River

Most people know this Little River landmark for incredible food and ghost stories… but the music history deserves attention too.

The building itself dates back to 1910 and originally operated as the old town mercantile. Over the decades, it survived storms, changing economies, and the transformation of Little River from a quiet fishing town into a major coastal destination.

Today, live music inside The Brentwood feels different than your typical beach bar scene. It’s intimate. Historic. Almost like stepping into another era where conversations mattered and musicians played close enough to hear every lyric clearly.

There’s something special about hearing live jazz or acoustic music inside a building that has already lived through more than a century of Horry County history.

Some places entertain you.
Others make you feel like you traveled through time for a couple hours.

Have you ever been there?

One of the coolest things about Horry County music history is how many different sounds collided here.

Beach music. Country. Southern rock. Blues. Gospel. Even jazz.

Tourists came for the ocean, but musicians came because crowds here actually wanted to dance, sing, and stay out late. For decades, the Grand Strand became a proving ground where bands learned how to win over a crowd fast… or lose them just as quickly.

Old-school performers used to joke that Myrtle Beach audiences would “tell you the truth before your first set was over.”

And somehow, that pressure helped shape some incredible local talent over the years.

Even now, you can still walk into places around Horry County and hear live music almost any night of the week. That tradition never really disappeared — it just evolved.

Where’s your go-to spot for live music today?

Here’s a little truth bomb for anyone house hunting in Horry County:

The “perfect” house rarely exists.

The key is finding the house with the RIGHT problems — not NO problems.

Paint colors can change. Flooring can change. Fixtures can change.

What’s harder to change?
❌ Bad location
❌ Flood concerns
❌ Poor resale potential
❌ Traffic nightmares
❌ Problem neighborhoods

Too many buyers walk away from great homes over cosmetic stuff while ignoring the things that actually affect long-term value and quality of life.

A good buyer’s agent helps you look beyond the surface and make smart decisions that still make sense years from now — not just during the excitement of a showing.

🎶 MUSIC HISTORY MOMENT 🎶

In 1969, a struggling young piano player named Elton John teamed up with a lyricist he had never even met in person before: Bernie Taupin.

The record company literally handed Elton an envelope of Bernie’s lyrics and said, “See what you can do with these.”

That random pairing became one of the greatest songwriting partnerships in music history.

The crazy part? Bernie wrote lyrics first… then Elton composed the music afterward. Completely backwards from how many artists work today.

Together they created classics like:
🎹 “Tiny Dancer”
🎹 “Rocket Man”
🎹 “Your Song”
🎹 “Bennie and the Jets”

And despite decades of fame, touring, and enough sequins to blind a small city, Elton and Bernie have always said their biggest strength was understanding what the OTHER person was good at.

Music history is full of moments where one small connection changed everything.
