Helpful steps for hurricane prep.
Hurricane season can bring a lot of uncertainty. Preparing ahead of time may help you respond more safely, protect what matters most and reduce some of the stress that can come with an approaching storm.
Here are some steps to help you prepare:
*Make an emergency plan for your household, including pets, evacuation routes, meeting locations and emergency contacts.
*Build an emergency supply kit with water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, chargers and important documents stored in a waterproof container.
*Secure your home and vehicles by bringing in loose outdoor items, trimming trees and checking gutters, shutters and garage doors.
*Create a home inventory with photos, video or a written list of belongings.
*Review your coverage and talk with your agent about your current policies, deductibles and whether separate flood insurance may be appropriate for your needs.
*Stay informed with local emergency alerts and weather updates, and have a battery-powered or hand-crank radio in case of a power outage.
A little planning now may help you be better prepared later.
