PETOSKEY area friends, mark these dates down on your calendars!

Dog Days of Summer are coming to Downtown Petoskey, and it's all about celebrating our four-legged friends while helping shelter and rescue dogs find loving homes.

We will have dog-friendly activities throughout the week, with more details still to come. Here is what is planned so far:

August 17 - August 23, 2026

All Week
Take part in the Find the Shop Dog scavenger hunt. Downtown Petoskey has plenty of canine coworkers, and your job is to match each dog photo with the correct business. Find the QR Code on poster outside of Ruff Life Pet Outfitters to begin! All correct entries will be entered into a drawing for $100 in Downtown Dollars and a donation of $200 in Downtown Dollars to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.

Monday
Foster a Dog and Shelter Dog Monday

From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts, the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society will share information about how fostering works and why it can make such a difference.

Then from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., illustrator Shafer Staron will be at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts for a signing of the new book Shelter Dogs: Stories of Rescued Fur Ever Friends.

Tuesday
Shelter Dog and Trolley Tuesday

From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts, meet dogs from LTBHS who are looking for their forever homes.

Also, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., bring your pup downtown for photos on the Downtown Trolley.

Wednesday
Working Dog Wednesday

Meet the Petoskey Pack! The Petoskey Schools Therapy Dogs will be in Pennsylvania Park from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Then at 2:00, meet Divot, the Emmet County Sheriff K-9 Officer!

Thursday
LTBHS Howl at the Moon Fundraiser (https://ltbhs.org/howl).

Friday
Join us for a special day featuring Adventures of Onyx the Coast Guard Dog.

Tyler Benson will be signing books from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts.

From 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., stop by Pennsylvania Park for rescue group meetups.

At 5:00 p.m., join us for the ribbon cutting at the new Bear River Dog Park.

Saturday
Pup Cup Social at Grandpa Shorter's Gifts, 1-3 p.m. bring your pal for a cool treat! Social at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts.

Sunday
Ruff Life Ramble

Wrap up the week with a group dog walk with the Ruff Life Crew at 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. The walk will take place only if temperatures are below 78 degrees.

Some seasons in real estate are less about "just putting the sign in the yard"

Cool blue kitchens are emerging as a 2026 design trend, but on their own they can easily feel too cold… especially in our climate.

I created this kitchen concept to explore how warming up those cooler tones changes the entire feel of the space. The design started with a gradient backsplash tile and an island that felt like strong anchors, and I built the rest of the palette intentionally around them.

By layering in warm wood elements, the look feels much more essentially Northern Michigan… while still being versatile enough to work across chalet, modern craftsman, or contemporary home styles.
