After losing far too many chickens to predators this year, we decided it was time for a chicken house upgrade.

What started as a new coop has turned into the Taj Mahal of chicken coops, or as Brigid calls it, the Baj Bahal. 🐔

Now we need help choosing a paint color. Which one gets your vote?

And yes, once it is finished, we may need a Tractor Supply trip to help fill our chickens' new pad with some more chickens... Strictly for decorating purposes, of course.

August is packed with so many great events throughout Oakland and Lapeer counties!

We put together a roundup of local fairs, festivals and family-friendly events, starting with the Eastern Michigan State Fair happening this week in Imlay City.

The fair is especially meaningful to our family because Abby grew up showing pigs through 4-H and auctioning them at the fair. It is such a great way for kids to learn responsibility, hard work and confidence, and community support truly means a lot to the families involved.

We also included Lapeer Days, Milford Memories, the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Michigan Renaissance Festival and more.

Pregnancy, bugs, and a little eucalyptus oil scare 😅

This week had it all - nesting mode, an unexpected ER trip with Brigid, early farm mornings, and Abby battling squash beetles.

Brigid is totally fine, but we learned a quick lesson about keeping essential oils out of reach.

Chaotic week, but a good reminder why we love this homestead life.
