Somehow summer flew by again. ☀️🍂

Between two toddlers, a baby on the way, farm projects, boat rides, ice cream trips and plenty of corn picking… we packed a lot into it.

We’re definitely feeling a little nostalgic as we head into fall and get ready to become a family of five.

Fall is starting to creep in around here 🍂

We’re getting the garden cleaned up, finishing projects around the farm, and starting to prep for another Michigan winter.

It also has us thinking about the housing market this time of year.

Fall can actually be a great time to buy.... fewer casual buyers, potentially more motivated sellers, and cooler weather that can help reveal things about a home you may not notice in the middle of summer.

The tradeoff? Usually fewer homes to choose from.

A little farmstead update from us 🌽

We’ve spent the last week picking and passing out hundreds of ears of sweet corn, trying to stay ahead of Abby’s garden with baby getting very close, and keeping up with the usual list of animals, projects and maintenance around the property.

Living on six acres has definitely taught us that there’s always something to do, but there’s a lot to be grateful for too.

After losing far too many chickens to predators this year, we decided it was time for a chicken house upgrade.

What started as a new coop has turned into the Taj Mahal of chicken coops, or as Brigid calls it, the Baj Bahal. 🐔

Now we need help choosing a paint color. Which one gets your vote?

And yes, once it is finished, we may need a Tractor Supply trip to help fill our chickens' new pad with some more chickens... Strictly for decorating purposes, of course.

August is packed with so many great events throughout Oakland and Lapeer counties!

We put together a roundup of local fairs, festivals and family-friendly events, starting with the Eastern Michigan State Fair happening this week in Imlay City.

The fair is especially meaningful to our family because Abby grew up showing pigs through 4-H and auctioning them at the fair. It is such a great way for kids to learn responsibility, hard work and confidence, and community support truly means a lot to the families involved.

We also included Lapeer Days, Milford Memories, the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Michigan Renaissance Festival and more.

Pregnancy, bugs, and a little eucalyptus oil scare 😅

This week had it all - nesting mode, an unexpected ER trip with Brigid, early farm mornings, and Abby battling squash beetles.

Brigid is totally fine, but we learned a quick lesson about keeping essential oils out of reach.

Chaotic week, but a good reminder why we love this homestead life.
