Understanding the differences between definitions of investors should be of paramount interest to you.

This categorization—rooted in regulations set by authorities like the SEC—fundamentally shapes the world of investment for everyone, including you.

Types of Investors (Per SEC)

1. Non-Accredited (506b) - Below thresholds for accredited investor

2. Accredited Investor (506c) - 1.1M net worth (excluding home), or annual income of $200k or $300K with spouse

3. Qualified Client - $2.2M net worth (excluding home)

4. Qualified Purchaser - $5M net worth (excluding home) or entity with $25 in assets

This difference determines what sort of investment opportunities are available to you and the level of regulatory protection they bring.
