Recipe Friday: Cool as a Cucumber…Well, Zucchini!
We're still getting plenty of warm Central Coast weather, so this week's Recipe Friday is all about keeping things cool, crisp and refreshing.
And technically, we're not talking about a cucumber.
We're talking about its slightly misunderstood summer cousin: zucchini.
This week's recipe is a Chinese-Style Zucchini Salad from The Woks of Life:
https://thewoksoflife.com/zucchini-salad-chinese/
Here's the best part on a hot day:
No cooking required.
Thinly sliced zucchini gets tossed with a bright combination of sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, fresh lemon juice, garlic, Sichuan pepper and a little chili oil if you want some heat.
It's crisp, tangy, garlicky, refreshing and ready in about 30 minutes.
Basically, cool as a cucumber…except it's zucchini.
And after making dinner without turning on the stove, you may feel like you've outsmarted summer entirely.
Speaking of enjoying the Central Coast…
Next weekend, September 19th & 20th, is the Whale Rock Music & Arts Festival at Castoro Cellars in Templeton!
Two days of live music, art, food, wine and a beautiful vineyard setting—pretty much a great example of why we love living here.
And Country Real Estate will be there!
Stop by our booth, say hello and enter our raffles for a chance to win gift cards, products and other goodies. Look for our tent
And sure…we can even talk a little real estate while enjoying some of Castoro's great organic wines.
Somehow, questions about interest rates seem considerably less intimidating with a glass of Central Coast wine nearby.
Whether you're thinking about buying, selling, relocating, wondering what your home might be worth—or you simply have a question about what's happening in today's real estate market—I'm always happy to talk.
No pressure. No obligation. Just good information and trusted local guidance.
Come see us at Whale Rock next weekend, or reach out to me anytime.

Great food. Great wine. Great music. Great place to live.
That's a pretty good Central Coast weekend.
Happy Recipe Friday—and I'll see you at Whale Rock!

Recipe Friday: The All-American Hot Dog Gets a Labor Day Makeover!

Labor Day Weekend is here, which means we've reached that wonderful point in the summer when we're supposed to relax, fire up the grill and absolutely refuse to think about Tuesday.

And what could be more All-American than a hot dog?

Well...this week's hot dog apparently decided the traditional mustard-and-relish routine was getting a little boring.

Chorizo-and-Kimchi Dogs from Food & Wine

https://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/chorizo-and-kimchi-dogs

This is definitely not your average backyard hot dog.

The recipe starts with Wagyu beef hot dogs seared in the drippings from Mexican chorizo, then piles on kimchi slaw, cilantro crema and crunchy chicharróns.

In other words, the humble American hot dog went on vacation, made some interesting new friends and came home with a completely different personality.

Smoky. Spicy. Creamy. Crunchy.

And the whole thing comes together in about 20 minutes, leaving plenty of time for the important Labor Day activities: relaxing, enjoying friends and family, and debating whether eating a second hot dog technically qualifies as work.

And while we're talking about American traditions...how about real estate?

Buying a first home, moving up, downsizing, relocating to the Central Coast or simply wondering what your current home might be worth can generate a lot of questions.

What's happening with prices?

What are buyers actually paying?

Are there opportunities to negotiate?

What are interest rates doing to the market?

Is now a good time to buy or sell—or would it make more sense to wait?

That's what I'm here for.

If you have questions about the Central Coast real estate market—or real estate in general—reach out anytime.

You don't have to be ready to buy.

You don't have to be ready to sell.

And you definitely don't have to sign anything just to ask me a question.

No pressure. No obligation. Just a conversation and good information to help you understand your options.

Have a safe, relaxing and delicious Labor Day Weekend!

And remember: there's nothing wrong with the classic American hot dog...

But sometimes it's fun to shake things up a little.

Happy Recipe Friday & Happy Labor Day!

This Chorizo-and-Kimchi Dogs recipe from chef Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins gets its flavor from tangy kimchi and spicy chorizo. Easy additions like crumbled chorizo meat make this restaurant favorite easy to pull off for backyard entertaining.

Recipe Friday: Something Fresh for a Hot Summer Weekend

We're heading into the final stretch of summer, and I'm always looking for recipes that deliver plenty of flavor without feeling too heavy when the weather is warm.

This week's Recipe Friday discovery definitely qualifies:
Five-Spice Lamb Lettuce Cups with Hoisin Glaze from Girl Carnivore.
https://girlcarnivore.com/five-spice-lamb-lettuce-cups/
Think savory ground lamb seasoned with Chinese five-spice, garlic and ginger, coated in a sticky hoisin glaze and tucked into cool, crisp butter lettuce. Add quick-pickled carrots, scallions, chili crisp, sesame seeds and a squeeze of lime and you've got sweet, savory, spicy and crunchy all in one bite.

Best of all, the whole thing comes together in about 35 minutes—which means less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying a Central Coast summer evening.

Fair warning: These probably aren't going to sit around very long. People tend to get pretty motivated when a platter of them hits the table.

Which brings me, naturally, to real estate...
There are some motivated sellers out there, too.
If you've been sitting on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity to buy a home, this may be a good time to start looking again.
Not every seller has the same motivation, and not every home is going to sell for substantially below asking price. But when we find the right combination of property, price, timing and seller motivation, there may be opportunities to negotiate on more than just the purchase price.
That's where having someone watching the market and asking the right questions can make a difference.
If you're thinking about buying on the Central Coast, reach out to me. Let's talk about what you're looking for, your budget and where opportunities may exist in today's market.

No pressure. No obligation. Just good information to help you decide whether it's time to make a move.

Ground lamb seared hard, glazed sticky with hoisin and five-spice, then piled into cold, crackling lettuce cups with pickled carrots and chili crisp. This is the dinner that replaced our takeout order.

Recipe Friday…on Saturday!
Hey, it’s summer. Who’s keeping track of what day it is anyway?
This week we’re giving a Central Coast favorite—TRI-TIP—a seriously delicious twist.
Food & Wine’s Smoke-Grilled Tri-Tips with Jeow Som Dipping Sauce takes our beloved smoky, grilled beef in a completely different direction. Think big grilled tri-tip flavor paired with a bright, spicy, tangy dipping sauce. Maybe not what the old-school Santa Maria BBQ crowd had in mind…but I’m willing to risk it!
Recipe: https://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/smoke-grilled-tri-tips-with-jeow-som-dipping-sauce
And speaking of Hot August Nights, Atascadero is living up to the name this weekend!
Classic cars at the Mid-State Cruizers Car Show today, and then tonight we are literally Dancing in the Streets in Downtown Atascadero. Great music, food, friends, summer weather and an entire community coming out to have some fun.
It’s one of those weekends that reminds you why living on the Central Coast is pretty special.
And the late-summer real estate market is hot too. If you've been thinking about buying, selling, relocating to the Central Coast—or you're just curious what your home might be worth right now—reach out. No pressure, no obligation. I'm always happy to talk real estate.
Come for the tri-tip.
Stay for the lifestyle.
Maybe buy a house while you're here.
