Why Falls (Should) Matter To You.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one in four older adults report a fall each year. In 2021, 38,742 older adults aged 65 and older died from preventable falls, and nearly 2.9 million were treated in emergency departments.

Injuries and fatalities from falls steadily increase with age and peak among those aged 85 and older. Not surprisingly, research shows that older individuals who require mobility assistive devices like canes and walkers are at especially high risk for falls. Compared with older individuals who do not use assistive devices, users are 11 times more likely to report a fall in the last three months and are six times more likely (odds ratio 7:1) to report that they limit walking outside due to concerns about falling [2].

Valet Trash Service Changed My Life.

People often ask me how I got into the Valet Trash business. I mean, as a Physical Therapist Assistant, what would make me change careers to something seemingly so unrelated? I sometimes ponder on the journey that led me here. But it seems that every time I think about it, I learn something new about myself. Let me explain.

Valet Trash In The Past

Many years ago, a few years after graduating college, I moved to Lithonia, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. I had been working as a Physical Therapist Assistant for the about 5 years and doing relatively well. I was enjoying life, and focusing on my future, my family, and my faith. I moved into a small one-bedroom apartment in a beautiful community, walking distance from Stonecrest Mall. The amenities were awesome! It had not one, but two huge pools with waterfalls! It had a professional business center, a clubhouse, and a fitness center that rivaled any of the local-area gyms. They even offered free personal training and fitness classes. But of all the amenities they provided, the one they did not offer was Valet Trash Service. I’m not really sure if valet trash service was a thing at the time, but I do remember dreading taking out the trash.

Apartment Managers Fight Hard To Become More Attractive To Tenants In Houston.
Since the beginning of 2022, Houston has seen an incredible uptick in the amount of apartment homes being built, and the number of tenants applying for residency. With that growth comes a need for management companies to find ways to stay competitive and also affords new opportunities to generate ancillary revenue. According to the Matthews.com, “Multifamily rents are predicted to grow by 0.8% in 2023. There are currently 28,689 units underway… The metro saw 160,000 net units added during the past decade.”
