Roof overhangs often go unnoticed, but they’re one of the simplest ways to protect a building from moisture damage. In this project, the roof design leaves only minimal overhangs.

While this may fit a modern aesthetic, it limits protection for siding, trim, and windows, areas that are most vulnerable to water infiltration and UV exposure.

Properly sized overhangs act like built-in shields, directing rainwater away from the structure and reducing reliance on caulks and coatings that wear with time.✏️

Natural gas leaks are nothing to play with. This leak at the hot water heater drip leg was found during a home energy audit, before it became an emergency, and it’s a powerful reminder to trust your nose and your gut.

If you ever smell rotten eggs, hear hissing, or see bubbling or dead vegetation near a gas line, get everyone out immediately and call 911 or your gas company from a safe distance.

Never try to fix a gas leak yourself or flip switches on or off. Stay safe, and have your gas appliances inspected regularly by qualified pros—and consider scheduling a home energy audit to catch hidden issues early.

To protect you and your home, I always verify which breaker types and locations are approved by the manufacturer’s labeling inside the panel, instead of guessing or forcing something to fit. That attention to detail helps prevent overheating, nuisance tripping, and potential fire hazards, and keeps your system within manufacturer and code requirements.
