3 days. That’s how fast Georgia can remove a squatter now. 🏠

Here’s what most owners don’t know: under Georgia law, squatting is now a crime. A deputy can cite the person, and they get three business days to show a lease or get arrested. File one affidavit at magistrate court and a judge can have them out in about a week, owing you rent for the whole time they were there.

A 1982 vote capped how fast Houston County’s taxes can grow, so when values spike, the rate gets forced down (9.9 to 8.45 mills in four years). But if your assessment jumped faster than the rate fell, you still pay more. That same vote handed the local sales tax to the school board, which is why you can’t compare our rate to the county next door.
