Building Industry Association of Philadelphia - BIA At almost 80 years old, the BIA is the leading group promoting residential construction in Philadelp

Since it was established in 1937, the BIA has built a network of professionals to promote residential construction in Philadelphia, including multi-family and mixed use development. Our membership includes builders, real estate developers, subcontractors, designers, finance experts, brokers, product manufacturers, and others. Our influence reaches every corner of the city – from the smallest rowho

me to the largest Center City apartment building. For more than 75 years, we have joined forces to share ideas and create opportunities that will have a positive impact on the city’s housing market. By working with city agencies and elected officials, and bringing community stakeholders to the table, the BIA continues to remove barriers to neighborhood investment. Our accomplishments to date:
-New zoning code
-Continuance of tax abatement
-Working relationship with the administration and city council
-Educational and networking opportunities
-Written guide to city's development review process
-Updated plumbing code

Our focus for next year includes:
-Tax abatement
-Proposed land bank legislation
-Actual Value Initiative (AVI)
-New zoning code implementation
-Streaming development review processes

The BIA is a member of the Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Join the BIA and representatives from L&I, Premier Building Restoration, and Keast & Hood for an informative session on façade inspections and maintenance this Friday, November 4 at 11:30 am.

Anyone owning, managing, or in charge of maintaining buildings should attend, along with other practitioners, design professionals, and contractors. Register now at http://ow.ly/rQfl50Lq5w7

After the devastating building collapses last month, there is no better time to remind members that proper maintenance of your building is critical, and that L&I requires periodic façade inspections of high-rise buildings (defined as more than 60 feet) to ensure public safety. The program will cover the intent and requirements of the code, what makes a quality inspection, repairs and maintenance, case studies, and submissions.

Thanks to member Premier Building Restoration for hosting the in-person lunch and learn at The Wheel Pump Inn, a historic inn built circa 1735 that Premier restored.
