John Hook’s going away bash was a blast!
My parting gifts were of course a parting shot at his dislike of
Panda Bears!

Flashback to the late 90’s when
the promotions department decided getting the anchors to paint the wall outside the Channel 10 studio would make a great fun commercial! 🤷🏾‍♀️

Cuz’ we always paint in our work clothes, right , Kathleen Bade?

Regardless, this post is about the man to my right — John Hook.

He stepped away from the anchor desk on Monday and I just want to acknowledge that on top of all the wonderful accolades he’s received for being an excellent journalist,
he is also a wonderful human being…

He was the friend who called to check on me outside of work.

He was the friend who would hunch down next to my desk to ask for the “real deal” on a story I’d covered!

He’d check on me after a particularly raw story to let me vent or cry about how cruel and unfair life can be.

His many accents and shenanigans are legendary in the newsroom!

So if you’ve never met John, but thought what a great guy he must be— you are right!

I am so blessed to have been his co-worker for his 3 decades at channel 10 and I’m even more blessed to be his friend!

Godspeed “Captain Hook”— smooth sailing straight ahead into retirement . I can confirm it is wonderful!

He thinks they’re actually dangerous, and overrated !! 😂

By chance Wednesday morning
I caught my friends Danielle Fox 10 and Jen with the Elections department talking to Fox 10 about hundreds of temporary job openings at the Maricopa County Elections Dept!
I see so many people looking for jobs —this might fit the bill - check it out!

September 11th of 2001 is honestly a blur for me…
grief, shock, fear, and countless tears will do that to you.
I asked my children in later years if I even seemed present, because I felt like I just sleep walked through those days at work and at home!
Oh no, they told me — Mom, remember we cut out an American flag that was printed in the Arizona Republic newspaper and we colored it in!
We took it to their Madison elementary school later that week, and their teacher laminated it and put it on the classroom door with all the other flags…. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Such a simple memory that means so much then and now.
Today I pray for peace and strength to the families of those lost on that horrible day.
God bless this country,
and may we join together to weather what lies ahead!
