Now, Jeff Bezos-backed Project Prometheus and Tesla have reportedly leased space at the campus as West Oakland attracts a new wave of AI, advanced manufacturing, robotics, and technology.

There’s a lot to be optimistic about, new investment, innovation, and potential jobs for Oakland. But it’s also bittersweet to see a place that played such a unique role in Oakland’s creative culture change.

We’ll miss what American Steel was while staying hopeful about what comes next. 🧡
