Keeping with the stair theme.... In past years, homes and stairs have been built. Over time, building codes were made to make things safer, and every few years, they changed. Often, we hear the term "grandfathered." This refers to something that was built to a previous code that does not meet todays code, but it's kinda overlooked because, well, it's old. During inspections, we often get asked, "Does this meet code?" It's rare that an old home meets today's code, so we inspect to Massachusetts Home Inspector standards. In today's standards, this staircase is unsatisfactory. Sorry, Grandpa, we are going to write it up. Will it change? Most likely not, but now you know. Special thanks to a great realtor, Mark Harris, for being a good sport in the picture! Heads up tho, seriously, don't hit your head, oh, and watch your step. 😬🤣
