Each month we get the Census’ construction spending report that estimates the value of the construction work done in the U.S. 👷‍♂️

This update gives us a look at economic growth in our country by measuring the value of the building/renovation activity done each month. 📊

Residential construction represents ~50% of total construction spending so this also helps measure how much investment is being made in housing. 🏘️

To see how investment is changing over time, we compare this month’s total value to the same month last year. 🗓️

Nationally, investment was up 77% which is huge! 📶

Here’s a look at each subregion’s performance to see where the investment is growing the most:

🔴 New England: -41%
🔴 Mid-Atlantic: -32%
🟡 Pacific: +8%
🟡 East South Central: +26%
🟢 Mountain: +53%
🟢 West North Central: +79%
🟢 West South Central: +110%
🟢 South Atlantic: +119%
🟢 East North Central: +155%

Based on these numbers, you can see the Northeast and West parts of the country are struggling to keep up with the Central/South portion of the country. ⚖️

Also, property values are likely to see additional growth in the areas that are outperforming over time in this map. 📈

This is one more factor people should consider if they are feeling concerned about buying/selling a home. 😓
