🌳 “Mycelium are incredibly tiny “threads” of the greater fungal organism that wrap around or bore into tree roots. Taken together, myecelium composes what’s called a “mycorrhizal network,” which connects individual plants together to transfer water, nitrogen, carbon and other minerals.” - National Forest Foundation
On this day I have let the feelings wash over me - ricocheting from disappointment to despair to hope to resignation and finally landing on action.
Many of you have reached out to say you are ready to take action as well, so I am starting the Root Down Community Group (a working title), which will be a chance for those of us who feel disconnected and disenfranchised to come together (informally) in activism, discussion, education, and information sharing.
What does this look like? Well the first action will be a book club to discuss the brilliant Ijeoma Oluo’s book, Be a Revolution. We will read one or two chapters at a time, then have a discussion. This will be via zoom so more people can attend.
There will be in-person meet ups in the future. Some possibilities would be hikes with a “discussion topic,” helping neighbors or BIPOC folks who may feel unsafe in these times, helping immigrant families who may be harassed, sharing meals, volunteering, taking classes to help us with our implicit or unconcious biases, and anything else that we feel we can do to help our little corner of the world.
So let’s be like Mycelium and create a network of individuals working to help the greater good, our “forest,” with actions of love, hope, greater understanding, and connection to our community.
If you would like to join, please comment here or DM me. I will send out details via direct message, so look for that in the coming days.
Love,
💕 Amanda
