Kansas City is having a moment right now and honestly, it earned it. But before you pack, here’s the stuff people leave out.

The two state thing is real. Kansas or Missouri changes your taxes, your schools, your car registration. Two people can live 10 minutes apart and have totally different situations. It’s not a dealbreaker, it just means the neighborhood you pick actually matters.

The weather does whatever it wants. Ice storms, 100 degree Julys, tornado sirens at 2am. The upside is you get real seasons. Fall here is worth every bit of it.

Everything is spread out. There’s no single downtown where life happens. That sounds like a downside until you realize it means every part of the metro has its own thing going on.

You’ll be driving. Every errand, every dinner, every soccer practice. There are other options for transit, but if you want to easily get across the metro, a personal vehicle or ride share is your best bet.

And the barbecue debate is not a joke. People will have opinions and they will share them. Just pick a side and commit.

The rest of it is exactly what you’ve been hearing. The people are genuinely kind. You can still afford a house with a yard. And you’re never more than 20 minutes from something good.

We chose Kansas City. Now we’re raising our families here and helping other people find their dream home.
